Spring Into Action – Outdoor Activities in Dallas
Outdoor Activities and Destinations in Dallas
With the epic freeze and temperatures that have kept us indoors through the winter, everyone’s gunning to get back out and take advantage of warmer weather. As spring approaches, it’s time to start planning ideas to get your family back in the sun and in nature. To get you started, take a look at some of the best warm outdoor activities and destinations for family fun in Dallas.
The Dallas Zoo is always fun for everyone, with aquarium features, reptiles, and the big draws like big cats, apes, and elephants. Feed a giraffe a gourmet lettuce wrap, watch warthogs roll in the dirt, and catch a lion or two napping in the sun. In addition, this year, the Jurassic Journey opens up, with a shuttle to tour over 30 life-size dinosaurs, have photo ops, and get up close and personal with one dinosaur along the way.
Klyde Warren Park
Right in the heart of Downtown Dallas, Klyde Warren Park is the perfect urban escape, with tons of daily activities as well as exciting events throughout the year. There’s a 12,000 square foot kids’ park that includes splash pads, a dog park with a fountain, free outdoor guided fitness classes, and five acres of green space for relaxing. Food trucks rotate and are available daily, and events like Lawn Games happen throughout the spring and summer.
Walk among some of the most beautiful and fascinating floral displays at the living, breathing Dallas Arboretum. Learn about the different species of plants and flowers that thrive in the Dallas area and across Texas on this 66-acre space. Weddings and events are often scheduled here, and you can find entertainment throughout the year, including music, cooking competitions, and food and wine festivals.
Love horses? Head out for a 2-hour horseback ride along Widowmaker Trail at Camp Alexander, ten minutes from DFW Airport. This beautiful nature space is often the backdrop for large corporate photo shoots, and the horses are well trained to accommodate riders of all experience levels. Call or text to make an appointment, and take your family on an adventure that will have you bonding with horses and with each other.
Trinity Forest Adventure Center
If you like a challenge and a bit of an adrenaline rush, check out Trinity Forest Adventure Center. You’ll traverse high ropes courses, multiple trees to climb, and so much more. There’s something for the whole family, with a ‘littles’ course for children as young as age 4. Cargo nets, wobble bridges, ladders, tight ropes, and more provide obstacles to overcome, and you can go at your own pace. There are even practice runs on the ground to get you started!
